Lunch @ Shucked Oyster & Seafood Bar Gardens

Shucked Oyster Bar in Gardens Mid Valley Megamall is one of those places that I know existed for some time but don't really go to due to the fact that getting into Mid Valley area is bad. The outlet I normally patronized is the one located in Publika. So it's the same stuff, fresh oysters and a variety of seafood for sale.

Now, to kick start lunch, we placed our orders and got served with some fine we had some fine Cloudy Bay Souvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Sitting at the bar, we also got to watch the boys at work as they got around shucking the oysters in record speed so we don't have to wait long.

We dive straight in for the Oysters, we ordered the Around The World Dozen consisting of Tragheanna Bay, Irish Premium, Gallagher Special from Ireland, Streaky Rock and Sydney Rock from Australia, Cloudy Bay from New Zealand, Loch Ryan, Jersey Rock and West Mersea from the UK, Fine de Claire from France and Dutch Creuses and Dutch Elon Natives from Holland. I was informed by Shontel of Shucked that we are lucky that all these oysters are in season and we get to enjoy them as some time around August onwards, we won't be able to enjoy some of the 'off season' oysters as they are not strong enough to take the long journey from the country of origin to our plate. So LUCKY US!
Verdict

Next, we went for the Oyster Shooter, one in Vodka and another one in Bloody Mary. It's quite an interesting journey as we do drink shots a lot but this is the first time we are trying out shots with oysters. The Bloody Mary one is a tad spicier than the usual Bloody Mary we drink, maybe because of the acidic lemon juice and the fresh oysters opening up the palate that brought the spiciness out. It's a nice experience anyway.
Verdict

Smoked Ocean Trout  served with goat cheese, bread and salad. Now, I am a big fan of trout and salmon but being allergic to cheese, this is something that I can't touch! My friend loved the taste though but since I can rate it myself, I'll rate it based on what my friend say (minus 1 out of 5 because it has cheese!).
Verdict:

This place also serve Set Meals like the other outlet but because it's the Ramadhan festival, they are selling the set meals for dinner instead of lunch. Where you get Tragheanna Bay Oysters followed by Mussel Angel Hair Laksa and Salted Caramel Chocolate Brownie. Because we are there for lunch and not dinner, I just ordered the Angel Hair by itself. After all, we ate the oysters already so there's no big deal and the amount of food we ordered, I couldn't stomach the Chocolate Brownie anyway. It's at the right amount of spiciness and the mussels are fresh so it doesn't give the broth a weird taste (I don't really fancy those sold in chinese restaurant as the taste of the broth is weird because of the mussels). Pretty filling too if eaten alone but we shared so it was all good.
Verdict:

Clams, not a big fan of clams but I must say that these Cloudy Bay Diamond Shell Clams are pretty nice. It's not as bloodied as those we buy in the wet market. Dip in a bit of the wasabi and soy sauce and you get a nice heat with the soft texture.
Verdict:

The Manager convinced us that the Rainbow trout is beautiful and told us to give it a try. So we had the Grilled Rainbow Trout served with sauteed vegetables. Personally, I find it a tad too oily but the flesh was sweet so I didn't really finish it as much as I want but it didn't go to waste, every bit of the flesh was completely eaten.
Verdict:

This one was a treat, Dutch Herring with chopped onion, bread and salad. I'm still a tad mixed about it. There's just something missing but I couldn't put my finger on it. I guess maybe because I'm not a big fan of the Herring and I don't know how to enjoy it.
Verdict:

Last dish of the day before we head off was Tasmanian Ocean Trout Sashimi, the cuts was pretty consistent and the flesh is fresh and sweet. It was just nice to end the lunch after all that we've consumed.
Verdict

If I'm in the area, would definitely eat at this oyster bar but still pretty much prefer the place in Publika. Maybe because in that area, it felt a bit more spacious and less staring eyes as people lining up at the surrounding restaurants seem to stare a lot at us while we ate. Maybe because I was also clicking away with my camera each time a dish is placed in front of me?
